NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

PURPOSE OF THE JOB Reporting to the Head of ICT, the Network Administrator officer will be responsible in managing the UN DT Sacco network infrastructure, communications network, perimeter IT security services and provide technical support to ensure that infrastructure services within the organization are optimal, reliable, and secure to meet business needs.

The ideal candidate should have thorough knowledge of network administration and architecture and be able to deploy, configure, maintain, and monitor all active network equipment in supporting smooth network operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the evaluation, selection, recommendation and installation of hardware and software required to ensure network security and protection of customer information, to include firewalls, anti–virus software, intrusion prevention and intrusion detection software, content filtering software and software patch management.
  • Manage network availability and Service Recovery, to ensure incidents; problems and request are addressed according to defined set of policies, processes, procedures, and SLA’s.
  • Effectiveness of the network security (policy, controls, and infrastructure) regarding protection against exposure to and impact of risks associated with data loss, corruption and/or unauthorized access.
  • Responds to hardware and software Help Desk calls related to the Sacco’s network.
  • Responsible for installation and maintenance of the in–house telephone system/call manager.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Sacco’s disaster recovery plan and BCP related data and communication network including updates of the plan.
  • Manage assigned Network /Information Security related projects from inception to completion.

  • Provide guidance, evaluation, and advocacy on Network systems security audit.
  • Manage the physical network infrastructure, including wired and wireless LAN, Wide Area Network inter-connecting primary and secondary data center
  • Oversee deployment of highly available data center infrastructure for running Sacco business systems.
  • Manage the network and unified communication critical infrastructure services including but not limited to Internet services, call manager, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Remote Access, Firewalls, Network Access Control and SIEM.
  • Maximizing network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with system Administrators on network optimization.
  • Securing network systems by establishing and enforcing policies and access management.
  • Supporting and administering firewall environments in line with IT security policies.
  • Participate in network-related audits and remediation efforts.
  • Support the compliance to the business continuity policy by ensuring the supporting infrastructure is in place.
  • Provide monthly report of network performance against specific service level and agreed performance standards.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject is required.
  • Professional certifications in CCNA, CCNP, or related field is required.
  • Good knowledge in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Remote Access, Firewalls Proven experience with Network Monitoring tools is required.
  • Network Security certifications are an added advantage.
  • A solid understanding of Internet-based technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, Security, HTTP/HTTPS)
  • Working knowledge of public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) will be desirable.
